The Museum

The decision for a new museum display is due to the discovery and the project of recuperating and promoting an Austro-Hungarian shelter in a cave at the summit of Monte Scorluzzo, 3094 metres above sea-level, in a strategic position for the control of the nearby Stelvio Pass. Dating back to the First World War and built by Austro-Hungarian soldiers, it was a shelter from the cold and bad weather, as well as from the fire of the Italian artillery. The shelter, saved by the Stelvio National Park with the collaboration of the Museum of the White War in Adamello, is unique and of priceless cultural value, with all those characteristics that make it the main element of interest and attractiveness in a wider project of promoting the historical events that took place during the Great War on the mountains of the Ortles-Cevedale Group.

On this occasion, the former Caserma Pedranzini and the adjacent Torre degli Alberti have been chosen as the location for the museum in which to relate the First World War. It will be possible to have access to exciting and evocative display areas with permanent and multimedia exhibitions. The contents will be multilingual and have the aim of inviting visitors to discover the area of the Stelvio National Park on foot and discover, through slow and sustainable tourism, its open-air museum, characterized by an extraordinary and well conserved historical-cultural heritage in a landscape of great value.
The museum is scheduled to open in 2025.
